Well, I just got off the phone with my Placement Officer, and so far it's all good news :)
We went over a final review of my file, talked about some of my initial concerns, current feelings, and placement possibilities. I was happy to inform her that I'm still extremely excited, have great family support, and am willing to cover my tattoos and/or dreadlocks (should they be culturally unacceptable).
She couldn't give me any specifics yet, and I can't get an invitation until my medical clearance is processed, but she did mention that they're considering me for several programs that leave in June, and it's probable that I'll be teaching at a high school. Since my potential departure date has been moved up, she did mention that she will be contacting the medical office and asking them to put a rush on my paperwork.
So...my invitation could literally be days away!
Speaking of things that are just days away...I graduate in 31 days! **spastic happy dance** :D
Wow! Congratulations on being so close to invitation! Out of curiosity did your PO call you out of the blue or set up a time to talk though email?
ReplyDeleteI sent in an updated resume and answered some education questionnaires on 03/11 but haven't heard back since. That's so awesome, very happy for you.
Also, I was wondering what kind of teaching have you done? Thanks!
George
Actually, she called out of the blue as I was on my way to class, so we set up a time to talk later that afternoon. I also sent in an updated resume and a few other things over the past few weeks. So maybe you'll hear back soon!
ReplyDeleteMy teaching experience has been mostly one-on-one, tutoring situations, and the like. I've also been a peer mentor at my undergrad, where I've had the opportunity to teach a few lectures. For the most part, however, my knowledge base is strictly on the science side... so taking on a high school classroom is going to be an adventure, to be sure! I can't wait though :)
Keep me posted about your progress!
Steph
Hah, isn't it great to get that (202) call? Once again congratulations, I can't wait to hear where you will be placed! I'll keep you posted if I get any good news.
